WordPress update on Synology

Is it that easy to update?

It’s understandable that you’re frustrated because the WordPress version on your Synology NAS (WordPress6.1.1-1081) is outdated and Synology no longer updates the package. Fortunately, there is a way to manually update WordPress to the latest version.

Start by making a full backup of your WordPress files and database. This is crucial to prevent data loss. Next, go to the official WordPress website and download the latest version of WordPress. Unzip the downloaded WordPress files on your computer and delete the wp-content folder. Keep the files wp-config.php and .htaccess.

Log in to your Synology NAS and go to File Station. Navigate to the folder where your WordPress files are stored (usually web/wordpress). Overwrite all files with the new WordPress files, except wp-config.php, wp-content, and .htaccess. Then log in to your WordPress site. You will see a prompt to update your database. Follow the instructions to complete the update.
