ODOP

One Dynamics One Platform

How do I customize Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (FinOps)? How much time does it take before a change is available in the Production environment? Sometimes it takes a long time. This depends on various factors, but that is beyond the scope of this blog.

With ODOP, for example, Microsoft gives the option to create Apps in the Power Platform that work together with FinOps or other financial Apps. In the Power Platform you can use “the universe of Data” – Dataverse. Dataverse is a place for tables, tables that physically contain data, or virtual tables that act as a conduit to the data of another App.

Using Power Automate it is possible to respond to an action in the source system. For example, provide a notification when a new contact is created, or when a return order is completed. In FinOps you can define business events that serve as a starting point in an Automation. Ultimately, data in Dataverse/source system can be updated from an Automation. And an App can show the data to the user in real-time, platform independent.

When a citizen developer (non-IT-savvy user) does not have much time/budget for a change in FinOps; and is able to create an App/Automation with a low/no-code solution. Then ODOP is the recommended path for the citizen developer.
